After updating from stretch to buster I could no longer log in as root in my containers. I added following to /etc/securetty in my containers
# systemd containers pts/0 pts/1 pts/2 pts/3 pts/4 pts/5 pts/6 pts/7 pts/8 pts/9 and everything works again. I can log in as root several times. Arne
