Package: needrestart Version: 3.4-5 Severity: wishlist Some of the items in override_rc are safe to restart some of the time but unsafe to restart most of the time. It would be nice to have mechanisms for services to be queried about whether or not it is safe to restart them at the current time and then restart them if so.
For example: Restarting gdm/getty logs user sessions out but if there are no users logged in then it is perfectly safe to restart them. Restarting libvirtd probably restarts guest VMs? If there are no running guest VMs then it is probably fine to restart it. Restarting NetworkManager or ModemManager probably restarts networking.
