Hi,

        Umm. Usually, the first line when make-kpkg spits out is an
 exec;  this contains significant data about where the make-kpkg is
 getting its rules from. Idon't see that in your log; which makes me
 wonder what version of k-p rules is in play. I should add a
 diagnostic. 

        Example of exec lines:
exec debian/rules  DEBIAN_REVISION=5:10.Custom  clean
exec debian/rules  DEBIAN_REVISION=5:2.6.16-selinux1-501.glaurung  debian 
exec debian/rules  DEBIAN_REVISION=5:2.6.16-selinux1-501.glaurung  kernel_image
