I can only guess but you probably have one or more AddOn in your profile
which isn't really compatible with Thunderbird 68.x.

Or your local profile is corrupted / has entries which prevent
Thunderbird from correctly working with the AddOns you have activated.

You can try deactivate your AddOns step by step to see which AddOn
provokes the trouble. In most of the cases some AddOns make such trouble.
