I can confirm that the 0001-Don-t-look-for-debug-alt-file-in-debug-image-if-it-i.patch patch from the Ubuntu package fixes this. Not only does the warning disappear but also callstacks provided by valgrind are actually useful again. Note that valgrind-mpi doesn't build at all on current sid, but that's a separate issue.
