It's definitely not the memory (ran the memtest86+ tests overnight without errors); when I logged into Debian and tried the site again -- same result of dead FF.

I have no extensions installed, nor plugins.

I'm at a loss.

Give http://www.memtest86.com/ a try, rule out the possibility of bad
memory.
