Apologies -- you are right that I should have dropped a note in this bug. FWIW, I did reach out to the previous maintainer before starting work, and I filed https://bugs.debian.org/962159.
- consider actually using alioth archived git repo
I did. All of the work I did is based on the old Alioth Git repo.
plus the changes already in the debian archive(!) as the base for your work.
:( I edited debian/changelog to add an entry for the NMU. It's disappointing that there isn't some sort of automated check for that.
Anyway, I've pushed my work here in case there's something you can/want to salvage: https://salsa.debian.org/ah/ddclient/-/tree/master
I cherry-picked a couple of your commits: * debian/skeleton: drop leftover example file * Add debian/salsa-ci.yml with default pipelines I left debhelper-compat at 10 because I want people to be able to easily backport the package to Ubuntu 16.04 (Xenial). Everything else is either already in the repo or OBE. Thanks, Richard
