Finally found the issue.
Looks like the ctrl unix sockets are not created if network-manager is
not installed. Not sure about the complete work-flow, but goes like
this:
* wpa_supplicant inits. It doesn't create any unix socket on normal
startup
* network-manager ask for something in the dbus interface.
* wpa_supplicant runs wpa_supplicant_add_iface function which in turns
creates the unix socket control for the interface.
The only remaining question is, there is a chance for a simple program
to control wpa_supplicant daemon without network-manager or dbus?
I think that as long as this bug is not Debian related, it should be
closed.
