Thank you both! I should've done a more digging into the commit history for the related HTTP fixes. I'm not sure I would've easily figured out the apt method issue but it's a relief to see there's a command-line flag for that. I'll try this again from master soon and glad to help with any other debug (although as evidenced I'm a bit slow to figure out the various best practices for testing all this).
