I see this too on my my system with a 3ware 7410 card and with the smartmontools installed. I think maybe it's just that the 3ware card (which appears as a scsi device) doesn't support the right scsi opcode for querying that info. If I stop the daemon provided by that package the errors stop. I only installed smartmontools recently and noticed this problem right away. Has it ever worked for you?
