To make mondoarchive faster you could use no compression ('-0') or LZO
as the compression engine ('-L').I am not sure in regards to nice. There was some discussion about this in the not too distant past which I didn't really follow. Maybe you want to raise your question on http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/mondo-devel to give it a broader forum.
