I tried version 4.1 of wxPython (using the pip3 installer), and the issue does
no occur there.
Would you consider upgrading the current 4.0 version in the Debian SID
repositories to 4.1, which may also have other improvements over 4.0?
Unfortunately, that is rather problematic. wxPython 4.1.x is based on an
unstable version of wxWidgets, 3.1.x. That version of wxWidgets isn't in
Debian, and probably won't be until 3.2 (stable) is released. So
unfortunately, Debian will probably remain on 4.0.x until wxPython 4.2 is
released, based on wxWidgets 3.2.
