I've just built a custom 2.6.16 from current Debian kernel source and to my surprise this patch also fixes the issue I reported earlier: the fan no longer kicking in when the processor heats up (#360336) allowing it to overheat dangerously. So, merging the two reports and raising severity to RC as it can cause hardware damage (and as there is a patch, there's no reason it should). I've updated both upstream BRs: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6315 http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6395
