Heya, This bug has already been forwarded to the upstream BTS. Anyway, it looks like it can be fixed by updating to a newer upstream version. I don't have a LDAP-based system here, so I can't test if it works properly but I guess there are enough people out there who would love to use a newer version. If you don't have the time to do that, it would be perhaps a good idea to ask for a new (co)maintainer. The package isn't in a releasable state right now and a new upstream version takes time to stabilize anyway, so *now* is the time to work on it.
