Hi Olek,

Are you also planning to file an unblock bug or would you like Simon (or
me) to take care of that?

I'm happy to take care of it.

I'm sorry for messing this up, this is my first official debian package.
Your patch looks good. Could you please also open a MR on salsa for it? Or
commit it right away if you have the permissions.
I'm currently on vacation but can do further cleanup if required and an
update to 1.12.12 starting 25.06. when I'm back home

Hi Simon, I guess your mail got blocked by SPF, sorry I should really look into that at some point..

No worries with your package, I remember asking the release team for last minute changes in my first packages as well. I will open a MR with the change. Enjoy your vacation!

Just to be sure, note that Ogre 1.12.12 has a new Soversion so you need to change the package name and do a library transition (once bullseye is released). Please upload new versions only to experimental for now.

As Simon's sponsor, I'd like to point out that his packaging was rather
reasonable for a typical library. It is *extremely unusual* for a package
to lose backwards-compatibility across _bugfix versions_! As I recall,
upstream notified us of their rather unusual backwards-compatibility policy
quite recently and I believe I recommended to Simon to not make a major
versioning change like that this close to release. I was also not aware at
the time that another package depended on the 1.12.x series of OGRE. So,
for the record, I certainly bear a good part of the responsibility for this
being an issue so close to release.

I agree that library that change the Soname with every release don't sound like the best idea. Normally lintian should warn you if library and package name don't match, but that's disabled for ogre-1.12. Maybe it makes sense to add some documentation to d/Readme.source or tests in d/rules so you don't forget next time.

Cheers Jochen
