Hi, this seems still owned:
# dpkg -S /etc/xdg/autostart/vmware-user.desktop open-vm-tools-desktop: /etc/xdg/autostart/vmware-user.desktop So that one IMHO isn't obsole. And AFAICS it is that way for a long time already. A very long ago it was part of another package. The timeline is 2007.09.04-56574-1: install -D -m 0644 debian/config/vmware-user.desktop debian/open-vm-tools/usr/share/autostart/vmware-user.desktop 2008.06.03-96374-2 Then made it part of open-vm-toolbox 2:9.2.3-1031360-2 Moved it to open-vm-tools-desktop debian/2%9.4.0-1280544-7 Moved it to open-vm-tools-desktop in a new style and under /etc/xdg path that we have today Since even oldoldstable is at 2:9.4.6-1770165-8 I don't see any reasonable upgrade path with anything left from that. And as explained above the path "/etc/xdg/autostart/vmware-user.desktop" still is in use. And some remains of that that needed cleanup were resolved long ago in bug 639811. -- Christian Ehrhardt Staff Engineer, Ubuntu Server Canonical Ltd
