the main mess is you will need to go to your profile and replace all
occurrences of ".icdeove" with ".thunderbird" within the files. Doing
this for .js|.json|.xml and so on files will be mostly easy, but it's
possible that there is also something in the encrypted files and also in
the .sqlite files.

It's all doable, and I wanted to start something that is doing that
trick, but it's in the end a more cleaner way to export the profile and
later re import it again. But exporting a profile by TB directly isn't
still full featured.

As long as nobody is digging into this we will need to live with the
symlinked folder.
