OK. What is strange is that Emacs was working on April 17... well, not
completely: I could use Emacs, but copy-paste didn't work; this seems
to be solved by trusted X11 forwarding.

In addition to a polite X error, it could also give some hints about
the problem (e.g. trusted X11 forwarding is needed), in particular if
SSH_CONNECTION is defined.
