there have been no maintainer replies to this bug and it has been two months since Colin's last reply to https://salsa.debian.org/pkg-debconf/debconf/-/merge_requests/8 -- if you don't have time, I would like to offer to NMU debconf with the change proposed in that merge request. What do you think? I requested access to the Debconf Maintainers team on salsa. If you are okay with that, I can also put my changes into the debconf git instead of just uploading an NMU.
