shairport-sync 3.2.2 fails to start with systemd as documented at https://github.com/mikebrady/shairport-sync/issues/829. This has been fixed with https://github.com/mikebrady/shairport-sync/pull/879 but the package needs to be updated.
The PR you have linked was created by me, based on a patch in another Debian bug report. This is problem fixed in newer versions of the Debian package, and I'm not planning on updating shairport-sync in Buster. Please upgrade to Bullseye, or use the backported version.
