After todays mutt upgrade (from 2.0) mutt suddenly *requires* successful
SMTP AUTH when sending mail, at least when the SMTP server advertises
AUTH support. (My server=localhost offers AUTH, but does not require it).
There does not seem to be a way to configure mutt to send without
successful SMTP AUTH.
With
smtp_url="smtp://localhost"
and unset smtp_pass now mutt prompts for user/password. Changing
smtp_authenticators to an value not offered by the server yields
SASL authentication failed
and setting smtp_authenticators="invalid" yields
No authenticators available
