Sorry, I can't duplicate this problem. You'll need to provide more details, and steps to reliably reproduce.
What is $tmpdir set to? Does this only happen when you tag-delete *all* messages and quit, or are there other circumstances? Does this happen just for your $spoolfile, or does it also happen for mailboxes in your home directory? What about maildir vs mbox files?
