Package: user-mode-linux Version: 2.6.16-1um-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable
I reported on the UML mailing list that I was unable to boot from an ISO image, even after various gyrations. Jeff Dike suggested that the binary was probably compiled without proper block support (specifically CONFIG_BLK_DEV_UBD, although there may be issues with ISO9660 support as well). Here is the actual error and command-line: $ linux mem=64M umid=debian ubd0r=debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso Checking that ptrace can change system call numbers...OK Checking syscall emulation patch for ptrace...OK Checking advanced syscall emulation patch for ptrace...OK Checking PROT_EXEC mmap in /tmp...OK Checking for the skas3 patch in the host: - /proc/mm...not found - PTRACE_FAULTINFO...not found - PTRACE_LDT...not found UML running in SKAS0 mode Linux version 2.6.16 ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) (gcc version 4.0.3 (Debian 4.0.3-1)) #1 Fri Apr 7 19:51:16 CEST 2006 Built 1 zonelists Kernel command line: mem=64M ubd0r=debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso root=98:0 PID hash table entries: 512 (order: 9, 8192 bytes) Dentry cache hash table entries: 16384 (order: 4, 65536 bytes) Inode-cache hash table entries: 8192 (order: 3, 32768 bytes) Memory: 62036k available Mount-cache hash table entries: 512 Checking for host processor cmov support...Yes Checking for host processor xmm support...No Checking that host ptys support output SIGIO...Yes Checking that host ptys support SIGIO on close...No, enabling workaround Checking for /dev/anon on the host...Not available (open failed with errno 2) Using 2.6 host AIO NET: Registered protocol family 16 mconsole (version 2) initialized on /home/tjacobs/.uml/debian/mconsole ubd: Synchronous mode VFS: Disk quotas dquot_6.5.1 Dquot-cache hash table entries: 1024 (order 0, 4096 bytes) Initializing Cryptographic API io scheduler noop registered io scheduler anticipatory registered (default) io scheduler deadline registered io scheduler cfq registered RAMDISK driver initialized: 16 RAM disks of 4096K size 1024 blocksize loop: loaded (max 8 devices) nbd: registered device at major 43 NET: Registered protocol family 2 IP route cache hash table entries: 1024 (order: 0, 4096 bytes) TCP established hash table entries: 4096 (order: 2, 16384 bytes) TCP bind hash table entries: 4096 (order: 2, 16384 bytes) TCP: Hash tables configured (established 4096 bind 4096) TCP reno registered IPv4 over IPv4 tunneling driver GRE over IPv4 tunneling driver TCP bic registered NET: Registered protocol family 1 NET: Registered protocol family 17 Initialized stdio console driver Console initialized on /dev/tty0 Initializing software serial port version 1 ubda: unknown partition table Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(98,0) EIP: 0073:[<ffffe410>] CPU: 0 Not tainted ESP: 007b:b7dcdfa8 EFLAGS: 00200246 Not tainted EAX: 00000000 EBX: 00007f03 ECX: 00000013 EDX: 00007f03 ESI: 00007efe EDI: 00000011 EBP: b7dcdfc4 DS: 007b ES: 007b 0892bb48: [<0806efa0>] show_regs+0xb4/0xb9 0892bb74: [<0805e014>] panic_exit+0x23/0x3d 0892bb88: [<0807e405>] notifier_call_chain+0x1a/0x31 0892bba8: [<08072f13>] panic+0x4f/0xca 0892bbc4: [<0804985a>] mount_block_root+0xaf/0xc5 0892bc08: [<0804997a>] mount_root+0x4c/0x54 0892bc2c: [<08049a30>] prepare_namespace+0xae/0xda 0892bc3c: [<080593e4>] init+0x5f/0x117 0892bc48: [<08069473>] run_kernel_thread+0x42/0x4a 0892bcf8: [<0805e3b7>] new_thread_handler+0x7f/0xa9 0892bd1c: [<ffffe420>] _etext+0xf7e6d406/0x0 <3>Trying to free free IRQ2 Trying to free free IRQ3 -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.15-1-686 Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages user-mode-linux depends on: ii uml-utilities 20060323-3 User-mode Linux (utility programs) user-mode-linux recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
