It looks like the issue isn't in novaclient, but in prettytable. Indeed,
the package registers itself as version 0.0.0 (ie: it shows in the
egg-info directory name and in the generated PKG-INFO file). This breaks
the version detection from python3-novaclient, which leads to the FTBFS
Lucas reported.
I've posted a diff over here:

This fixed the build of python-novaclient for me (I tried with the built
version of prettytable with the mentioned patch).
Sando, please either fix it yourself, or allow me to NMU the fix.
