Well, apperently there is, and I'd love to know what exactly it is, but I'm afraid I don't know. I am using sbuild just like the buildd do, but reproducible-builds is using pbuilder (cowbuilder?), and all in all I don't see any common factor. That being said I take some strange consolation now from the weird fact that appstream 0.15.3-1 seems to FTBFS on reproducible-builds as well, or at least on amd64, arm64, and armhf so far, right in the same manner as initially reported.
