Package: installation-reports Boot method: external firewire cd Image version: http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/daily/arch-latest/powerpc/iso-cd/debian-testing-powerpc-netinst.iso (from 5/3/06) Date: 5/03/06 07:45
Machine: Xserve G5 cluster node (headless), external firewire, serial console only (different box from Bug#365844, but identical) Processor: Dual PowerPC970 (Apple RackMac3,1 5.1.7f0 BootROM built on 05/06/04 at 15:57:06) Memory: 2GB Partitions: none yet; testing installer bootability Output of lspci and lspci -n: N/A Base System Installation Checklist: [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Initial boot worked: [E] Configure network HW: [ ] Config network: [ ] Detect CD: [ ] Load installer modules: [ ] Detect hard drives: [ ] Partition hard drives: [ ] Create file systems: [ ] Mount partitions: [ ] Install base system: [ ] Install boot loader: [ ] Reboot: [ ] Comments/Problems: Boot crashes right after 'core99_setup_cpu 0 done' message. Note that this installation attempt was identical to that in Bug#365844. A different Xserve box was used, although an identical model to the box in Bug#365844 (both are members of the same Xserve cluster). The only difference between the two machines is that the USB ports in this one have been used, whereas the USB ports in the box from Bug#365844 have never been touched. NO USB devices were plugged in at the time of the attempt. The only external device was the firewire cd. Note also that this box and all it's ports work fine under Mac OS X See Bug#365730, which may be a duplicate. This is a Debian installation CDROM, built on 20060503. The default option is 'install'. For maximum control, you can use the 'expert' option. If the system fails to boot at all (the typical symptom is a white screen which doesn't go away), use 'install video=ofonly' or 'expert video=ofonly'. The plain options are for the powerpc family of processors (from 601 to G4). The *64 options are for 64bit powerpc processors, which include the IBM Power3, Power4, Power5, ... boxes, as well as the Apple G5 boxes. Press the tab key for a list of options, or type 'help' for help. ************************************ If in doubt, just choose 'install', and if that doesn't work, try 'install video=ofonly'. ************************************ Welcome to yaboot version 1.3.13 Enter "help" to get some basic usage information sbp2:Open ->login? speed=ffffffff 2 2 boot: * install expert install64 expert64 boot: expert64 video=ofonly console=ttyS0,57600 debug dobladecenter Please wait, loading kernel... sbp2:Open ->login? speed=ffffffff 2 2 sbp2:Open ->login? speed=ffffffff 2 2 sbp2:Open ->login? speed=ffffffff 2 2 sbp2:Open ->login? speed=ffffffff 2 2 sbp2:Open ->login? speed=ffffffff 2 2 Elf64 kernel loaded...
