Hi,

It's been almost three years since the last update on the Mailpile blog:

https://www.mailpile.is/blog/

... and the second to last one was not encouraging:

https://www.mailpile.is/blog/2019-04-06_Burnout.html

More recently, in Sept 2021, upstream made an update here:

https://community.mailpile.is/t/a-very-uninformative-progress-update-mailpile-2/785

... where they say the biggest blocker is the Python 3 port. Apparently,
Mailpile was written in Python 2 and that port isn't complete. The work
is happening in a "quiet" project called "Moggie":

https://github.com/BjarniRunar/moggie

... which can read and search email and ... that's it really. You can't
compose, reply, move, tag, emails, and there isn't even a web
interface. There's no IMAP or SMTP support.

At this point, I suspect someone less tolerant than me might just
declare Mailpile dead, but I'm happy to give upstream the time they need
to do whatever they need to. It's just that we're trying to remove
Python 2 from Bookworm, so, in this state, the project really can't be
packaged yet...

In fact, from that perspective, if anything gets packaged, it would be
moggie, so maybe this RFP should be closed, especially since the moggie
upstream explicitely states that we shouldn't contribute to the project
yet...
