Could it be a duplicate of https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=821352, that is xorg synaptics driver is not compatibale with GNOME anymore. Could you tell if you are running a Gnome Xorg session or a Wayland one ? If Xorg a session do you have xserver-xorg-input-synaptics installed? gnome has removed support for this synaptics driver around 2016 and only supports changing settings to the xserver-xorg-input-libinput driver. Kind regards, Alban
