Package: package-update-indicator
Version: 8-1
The tray icon no longer changes when updates are available. In addition, the "Install Updates" menu selection remains greyed out thus preventing the package from initiating updates.
OS: Debian Sid (fully updated)
Kernel: Linux debian-mate-dlg 6.0.0-6-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.0.12-1 (2022-12-09) x86_64 GNU/Linux
Note the failure occurs on my pure Debian sid test system as well.

Description: Notify about available software updates
This small utility which regularly checks for software updates and notifies
the user about available updates using desktop notifications and either
a status notifier icon or a system tray icon.
 .
It is primarily intended for desktops which do not already have this
 functionality built-in, such as Xfce.
