Yes, I tought about filing a bug with the Qt package, but have
refrained from doing so until further investigation. Unfortunately,
I did not find any time yet to test against past Qt Debian package
versions and isolate the responsible patch.

I might not have expressed my view on this issue clearly enough.

It is true that the problem with the dropping dock icon window in
WindowMaker only appears with the Qt version in Debian.

However, IMHO the patched Qt is not to blame for this misbehaviour;
it merely pointed out a problem in the licq plugin code. As I already
wrote above, setting the window_group hint on some windows while
leaving out the rest is simply inconsistent. The window_group hint
should be managed automagically *solely* by Qt.

Concerning upstream, I can fully understand that they do not want to
immediately include a patch which fixes a Debian-specific issue not
occuring on other, personally utilized distributions. Yet again,
I guess that in the long run, the window_group hint inconsistency
needs to be resolved upstream as well.

(Of course, I might as well err on the whole issue...)

Sorry for the mess...

I should not have unconsciously tried to get in both patches in unity
and at the same time.
