Package: dmraid
Version: 1.0.0.rc16-8+b1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
on each Debian box with dmraid installed (here by suggestion from gparted),
one gets a message at boot (from initrd stage):
modprobe: module dm-raid45 not found in modules.dep
it has been 15 years since the issue has been reported and it was told to patch
the kernel with alpha
code in Debian bug #411172 . (there was also a patch included in the debian
package to
translate raid-45 calls to raid456 which is in the Debian kernel but it is told
not to work in htis bug report
- was dmraid 1.0.0.rc14-1).

Is there any reason to ship an initramfs that request an out-of-tree module for
all Debian users with dmraid installted ?

May I request that the call to force_load dm-raid45 be removed for now and
replaced by a force_load raid456
 when support is implemented?

This message is spurious and can cause confusion as a red herring that
something is wrong when all is fine.

dm-raid45 is not supported by Debian. And shipping code that has seen no update
since 2009 in every dmraid install
seems a bit dangerous either way. Users that install this dm-raid456 modules
can add dm-raid45 into /etc/initramfs-tools/modules
either way.

Best regards,
Alban
