Alas, the broken configure check is still the same in > angband 4.1.2. :-( Apparently upstream finally fixed the problem one year ago in commit 0f29cc2cff9f("configure: use ncursesw6-config if available")[1]. In ncurses we currently still ship a compatibility ncursesw5-config symlink, but it will go away after Bookworm[2].
