Perhaps there's a separate regression in 44.beta, then - its udev rules might be forcing mutter-based compositors into X11 mode on systems where it isn't necessary, or wasn't previously necessary? Please report that as a separate bug (presumably of lower severity) if you think the wrong thing is happening. smcv
