"The latest packaging breaks devpi and until the next major version one has to use a version <22. See #939 I have a fix ready for latest packaging, but that might change behaviour with sorting, which is why I hold it back for the next major release." As far as I can see the fix is not even in the main branch yet (at least the one that was proposed in https://github.com/devpi/devpi/issues/939#issuecomment-1347924626 ).
