Hi Peter - one more thought from me: Would you be willing to send your patch to the upstream hyperkitty project[1] as well? (likely as a merge request on their GitLab instance) Since we've found the conditions for the problem to occur and since it looks like a fairly safe patch, they might welcome it as a fix.
