In the "default" way (and that is: for most cases don't do anything except somthing via the socket talks to gpsd), which is the only sane option for distributions imho, gpsd is configured to talk to a gps device when udev will recognize one. So there is no need for -n. If there is a need for anything else - change the configuration.
