I have experiencing this problem in a while, solving it with workarounds (using other software to this part of the taks), but I think it is important enough to leave it as it is. After sorting out a column with text (names more precisely),I see the undesirable order: Gabriela Somehing Gabriel Otherthing The natural lexicographical ordering should put "Gabriel " before "Gabriela". I can provide any other details upon request. The files where this happens have sensitive data (names, e-mails, grades etc.) , so I can't share it here. For instance, libreoffice puts them in the correct order (this is what I used to sort the data: prepared everything in gnumeric, sorted what I needed in libreoffice and then finalized the work in gnumeric again, all using ods file format, but the problem persists in gnumeric native file format too).
