Well, I for one consider this a regression in the quality of the default
font handling between 2.1.10 and 2.2.1, and being able to fix it by tweaking
per-user settings seems like it's just a workaround.  I would like to see
this bug kept open and discussion continue on whether this is a regression
that can be reverted, so that the meaning of medium hinting doesn't change
between sarge and etch.
