The keyboard works perfectly well (Swiss-French keyboard layout) during d-i. Immediately after the GRUB boot loader starts for the first time, the keyboard freezes and the lights/leds start to blink quite quickly in sequence from right to left. The system then automatically boots the first entry from the GRUB menu and starts normally all operations. It can be accessed thru the network SSH console once started. No problems reported within 'dmesg'. However, the keyboard remains unusable for further console intervention. So the problem seems to me: the keyboard freezes as soon as the Boot loader launches. The lights keep blinking during all the time the system runs (only the keyboard freezes; Linux starts normally). During BIOS setup (before boot loader launches), or during the d-i phase, the keyboard works perfectly well. I tried numerous reinstalls, which all led to the same outcome: * boot: expert sym53c8xx=safe * boot: expert acpi=off * boot: expert noapic nolapic * boot: expert debian-installer/framebuffer=off * hardware: tried to remove one of the processors * hardware: tried another PS/2 keyboards * d-i: no keyboard layout (default kernel mapping) * d-i: installed LILO rather than GRUB * Sarge 3.1r2 (I am unsure if I can further ask here:) Would you have any suggestion on why the keyboard freezes and how to solve it? This is a quite critical problem to me: it prevents intervention on the console, which I would need in case of trouble with the filesystems (e. g. ext3 fsck; AFAIU, this happens before the network SSH console is available).
