Hi, ntp 4.2.1rc1 was released in March (see http://lists.ntp.isc.org/pipermail/announce/2006-March/000012.html). Looking through that, we see that:
1) The arlib/ stuff is still completely non-DFSG-free, and needs to be ripped out of ntp. I'm open to any suggestions of async dns resolvers that will work; firedns comes to mind, but it's GPL'd (and therefore would conflict w/ the files that have BSD-w/-advert-clause and openssl linkage). 2) The files that start w/ "Copyright Frank Kardel" have been fixed; they are now BSD (3 clause). Of course, the debian/copyright file should be updated accordingly, but they are now distributable. 3) ElectricFence, as mentioned, is unused (it's enabled w/ an argument to ./configure). Listing its copyright in debian/copyright would be good enough. 4) From the README.hackers file: NTP4 uses ANSI C. Some folks are blessed with a pre-ansi C compiler. We support them by using "ansi2knr" in the Makefiles, which is automatically detected and selected by the configure process. So, ansi2knr is not actually used on debian. We can simply describe the copyright in debian/copyright and be done w/ it. 5) Of the things that mention Tai Jin; adjtimed/ simply needs to be mentioned in debian/copyright, include/adjtime.h is irrelevant (as a header file), and libntp/adjtime.c is copyrighted by many people. This file is actually pretty problematic; the HPUX adjtime implementation is copyrighted Tai Jin (and is ok, but should be mentioned in the copyright file), but the QNX adjtime implementation is copyright Chris Burghart, and has no license (and is therefore non-distributable). 6) libntp/ranny.c has been removed. 7) stuff in the sntp directory contains: Copyright (C) 1996, 2000 N.M. Maclaren Copyright (C) 1996, 2000 The University of Cambridge No license, though. 8) There are misc scripts in the scripts/ subdirectory that are GPL'd. I'm sure there's more, but that's all I can deal w/ tonight.. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
