One way to try to reproduce this is:

- Put the respective nedit window to the front using functionality of the 
window manager (I use KDE and use the Window lists in the taskbar).

- do not click into the window!

- try CTRL-F etc. (in my version it opens the Search-Window, but you cannot 
type in it)

- Close it with window manager functionality (Escape won't work as it doesn't 
accept Keyboard input)

- Klick into the nedit-Window

- Try the same and it works!

This happens with an older version of nedit (5.2), but might do the same for 
your problem.
