Thanks for the hint, I attempted a rebuild of the package on the
loong64 buildd, but the build failed here[1] with:
-- Could NOT find MPI_CXX (missing: MPI_CXX_WORKS)
CMake Error at
/usr/share/cmake-3.28/Modules/FindPackageHandleStandardArgs.cmake:230 (message):
Could NOT find MPI (missing: MPI_CXX_FOUND) (found version "3.1")
Call Stack (most recent call first):
/usr/share/cmake-3.28/Modules/FindPackageHandleStandardArgs.cmake:600
(_FPHSA_FAILURE_MESSAGE)
/usr/share/cmake-3.28/Modules/FindMPI.cmake:1837
(find_package_handle_standard_args)
cmake/MacroHelper.cmake:277 (find_package)
CMakeLists.txt:309 (nrn_mpi_find_package)
which is weird, because I believe it should capture the file
below, which does exist in the loong64 libopenmpi-dev and
libopenmpi3 packages in the debian-ports archive:
usr/lib/loongarch64-linux-gnu/openmpi/lib/libmpi_cxx.so: symbolic link
to ../../libmpi_cxx.so.40
usr/lib/loongarch64-linux-gnu/libmpi_cxx.so.40: symbolic link to
libmpi_cxx.so.40.30.1
usr/lib/loongarch64-linux-gnu/libmpi_cxx.so.40.30.1: ELF 64-bit LSB
shared object, LoongArch, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked,
BuildID[sha1]=780933118b0c18c0272f4effb5b438e81410eccd, stripped

I am afraid I am lacking the infrastructure to investigate
further.
Anyway, in hope this helps,
