Looks like that info can be gotten from the locales on glibc systems: $ LANG=en_AU.utf8 locale -k LC_PAPER height=297 width=210 paper-codeset="UTF-8" $ LANG=en_US.utf8 locale -k LC_PAPER height=279 width=216 paper-codeset="UTF-8" For languages with one translation instead of one per dialect, you could produce documents in each of the unique sizes.
