Package: udhcpd Version: 1:1.36.1-6 Severity: normal X-Debbugs-Cc: max-jul...@pogner.at
Dear Maintainer, The package 'udhcpd' declares 'Provides: dhcpd', making 'dhcpd' a virtual package. I read debian policy 4.6.2.0 section 3.6. [1] such, that there is a SHOULD NOT requirement that only virtual packages listed in the authoritative list of virtual package names [2] are used. However, 'dhcpd' is not currently listed. This Provides was added to debian/control back in 2009 and left unchanged since, maybe there was a different situation back then. I would think it proper that only an official package maintainer (or debian developer) requests the addition of the virtual package to the list. But maybe i can suggest the naming 'dhcp-server' instead of 'dhcpd', as it aligns with the already existing virtual package 'dhcp-client'. best regards, Max [1] https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-binary.html#s-virtual-pkga [2] https://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/virtual-package-names-list.yaml
