I would like to strengthen the wish of Louis-David and Roberto for the integration of the dateext option.
Martin Dummer from Siemens has already applied the SuSE patch to an alternative logrotate package (based on logrotate 3.6.10). Please see the following link, maybe it can shorten your integration work:
