The lintian warnings emitted for pandoc documentation conversation are as you say well known due to the age of the pandoc package in Debian and its need to be updated. These warnings can be safely ignored and should not block this package from being uploaded into Debian. I supply a link below to a bug report that is requesting an update of the pandoc package.
