That quite definitely is the long term solution. It has one downside: Backporting to bookworm-backports and earlier will result in a broken package that is not (re)started during package installation and upgrades. Now lightdm is not a package with a long history of backports so this trade-off may well be a good one and a backport also can revert this change (if one remembers to do so). So this mainly is a question of how you want to deal with backports. Helmut
