I see that you went with Helmut's approach instead of the one I proposed and uploaded in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1052380#26

As you probably noticed, this makes the build fail for arch:all builds:
https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=opensm

While Helmut's approach allows for easier backports, I don't think that is really an issue that is important for opensm.
So an easy way to fix the arch:all build is to go the route I did in
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?att=1;bug=1052380;filename=opensm_3.3.23-2.1.debdiff;msg=26
