jpilot updates the time shown above the calendar even if it iconified. This consumes CPU cycles which consumes power that is rare on mobile machines. I run jpilot the whole time, because I want to become informed about events. I also suggest not to update the time every second if it does not show seconds as in the format hour:minute.
