I tried to read the dbus documentation and failed, because I just didn't
care enough to dig through wire protocols and library specs and etc to
find out what the use patterns and lifespans of processes were.

I think it requires some higher level documentation which is not
currently available.

I would not be surprised if this is not really the only to use dbus.  I
would not be surprised if it is and dbus is deeply riddled with design
flaws.  

Feel free to turn this into a design flaw bug with dbus if that is
correct. In fact, I filed a really vague, and low quality one already.
